Description

This activity is part of a 16-course series designed to equip licensed practitioners from medical, nursing, and related disciplines with a multidisciplinary approach to managing patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as eczema.

13. Psychosocial Aspects of AD and Building a Support Network

It takes the efforts of many providers and caregivers to treat one eczema patient, and primary practitioners are often at the center of that effort. The stress of caring for a child with AD is high. Therefore, practitioners need to have an excellent understanding of who is involved in the care of the patient and how to best communicate with members of the care team, such as the dermatologist, immunologist, school, work, family, and other health specialists. The support network is described, and tips for effective communication are presented.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Construct a model for the support network available for patients with AD
  • Review some of the latest recommendations and tools available for communicating with patients’ support networks
  • Address various psychological aspects related to AD management
