This activity is part of a 16-course series designed to equip licensed practitioners from medical, nursing, and related disciplines with a multidisciplinary approach to managing patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as eczema.
2. Why People Get Eczema - What We Know and Where Do We Go from Here?
Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) is a chronic, itchy, and inflamed skin condition that can be frustrating for patients and parents. While the exact cause for atopic dermatitis remains unknown, there are multiple factors that are involved, including a defective skin barrier, an overactive immune system, influences from genetics, and modulation of the disease from lifestyle and environmental factors.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the role of the environment, immune system, and genetics in AD
- Analyze the causes and factors that result in eczema
- Solve cases not covered in textbooks
