Dr. Gil Yosipovitch is a Professor of Dermatology at the Miller School of Medicine at University of Miami, and Director of the Miami Itch Center. The Itch Center focuses on diagnosing and treating chronic itch of different types, conducting research on neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of itch in humans and animal models and developing anti pruritic drugs that target the neural system.
Itch is the quintessential symptom of AD. Choosing the best systemic therapy for AD that will also synergize with the patient’s itch is an opportunity often missed. Through case-based learning, the pathways of itch in AD are reviewed and potential therapies are offered.
Itch is the hallmark symptom of atopic dermatitis and the major source of patient suffering. In caring for these patients, it is important to understand the underlying mechanism and the manner in which treatments target these mechanisms to reduce pruritus. This lecture will formulate an approach for the treatment of different types of AD itch and describe upcoming drugs in clinical targeting of itch and AD.
