Lisa Lombard, PhD

Biography

Dr. Lombard is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Chicago and co-founder of the nonprofit, Comfort Kits for Children®. She is a former Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her field of inquiry was the psychosocial impact of food allergies and integrating mindfulness and self-hypnosis into the study of atopic diseases and adjustment to life during the covid-19 pandemic. She has also been an Associate Professor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, in the Child and Adolescent Track. Her clinical work across settings has included inpatient and outpatient units, an academic testing center, and a community mental health center. Her approach integrates mind-body skills with a relational perspective as she helps children, families, and adults cope with anxiety, stress-mediated health concerns, and pain. She also treats children and adults experiencing unexpected grief and loss. For over 10 years she worked within a preschool and elementary school, providing direct clinical services, parent guidance, clinical supervision, and community consultation on risk behaviors, trauma, SEL, and the impact of screen-time. She now offers specialized clinical services within her general psychology practice to meet the biopsychosocial needs of those with food allergies, eczema, atopic disease, inflammatory problems, and DGBIs.

In March 2022 she co-founded Comfort Kits for Children®, growing out of her leadership role with the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (NPHTI). This non-profit has provided nearly 2000 Comfort Kits to children impacted by the war in Ukraine, earthquakes in Turkey, violence and displacement in Israel, children being treated for cancer in Chile, wildfires in Maui, and community violence in Chicago and Minneapolis. She and colleagues maintain a website of relevant behavioral health resources, available in 6 languages. They also provide virtual trainings for staff and caregivers to coach children how to use the 6 Mind-Body Comfort Activities and toys in each donated tote bag.

Dr. Lombard earned her BA (Behavioral Sciences) and PhD (Psychology/Human Development) from the University of Chicago where she studied and worked with the renowned psychologist, Erika Fromm PhD. She completed an APA-approved internship at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute. She is an ASCH Approved Consultant, an active leader in several professional organizations (President of the Board of Directors of the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute, President-elect of Div30 of the American Psychological Association, and former President of the Chicago Society of Clinical Hypnosis), and regularly teaches healthcare providers interested in integrating hypnosis into their area of specialization.
