Diet can affect our health in numerous ways, whether directly or indirectly. The things we ingest can affect the health of the microorganisms in the body and can lead to changes in the microbiome of the skin as well. This activity will examine the way that certain foods can alter the microbiome.
The skin hosts one of the most diverse species of microbes in our body. Dysbiosis, or the alterations of microbial composition with overgrowth of pathogenic species over commensal species, has been implicated in a number of skin diseases including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and acne vulgaris.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a multifactorial disease and is caused in part by changes in the skin microbiome. But what about the gut? And the impact of nutrition on HS? The health of the gut microbiome is increasingly being shown to be an important factor in health. This course will explore the evidence supporting the relationship between the gut-skin axis, nutrition, and HS.
This session will review the importance of shared decision making and how to most effectively involve the patient in diagnosis and treatment related discussions.
