Tess Engel is a second-year medical student at UC Davis interested in dermatology and integrative approaches to patient care. She is in the Rural PRIME track program and hopes to help expand healthcare access in rural communities. She got her undergraduate degree in nutrition with a minor in biological sciences at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, being outdoors, painting, pilates, and travel.

Biofilms are unique structures formed by bacteria that have reached a critical mass and provide bacteria with unique protections. This activity with review biofilms and what gut and skin bacteria form them. Triggers for the formation of biofilms will be discussed along with strategies to reduce their development.

This course provides an overview of polycystic ovarian syndrome and some of the herbal and nutritional supplements investigated for treating this disorder.
