The Role of Environmental and Food Allergies in Driving Atopic Dermatitis
Neal Jain, MD

In this course, we will use a case-based approach to describe the role of environmental and food allergies as contributors to atopic dermatitis disease activity. We will discuss the difference between allergic sensitization and clinically relevant allergies, as well as discuss how to accurately diagnose clinically relevant allergies using available diagnostic tools, such as skin testing, IgE testing, and food challenges.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe how atopic dermatitis (AD) can be an organ-specific manifestation of systemic type 2 (T2) inflammation
  • Differentiate between allergic sensitization and clinically relevant allergy
  • Explain how AD can predispose to allergic sensitization
  • Illustrate how allergen driven T2 inflammation can contribute to AD disease activity
