Welcome to Week 15 as we tackle one of the most challenging disease states in dermatology, HS!

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of clinicians and non-clinicians involved in the care of patients.

Method Participation

Participants must 1) read the program information, 2) study the educational activity, 3) complete the posttest by recording the best answer to each quiz question, and 4) complete the evaluation form.

Pathogenesis of Hidradenitis Suppurativa

This course will cover the pathogenesis of hidradenitis suppurativa.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the importance of treating HS
  2. Review the mechanisms that contribute to the development of HS
  3. Identify three lifestyle factors that contribute to HS

HS Therapeutic Updates

Guest faculty Vivian Shi, MD walks through the stages of HS and recent therapeutic updates.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recall the epidemiology and pathogenesis of HS
  2. Compare scoring systems for HS
  3. Analyze emerging therapies for HS

Diet and Foods

This activity will review the current understanding and evidence for how food and diet may modulate hidradenitis suppurativa.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the evidence for the role of foods in hidradenitis suppurativa
  2. Review the role of dietary interventions for modulation of hidradenitis suppurativa co-morbidities
  3. Identify the role of anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antigen in identifying food sensitivities in hidradenitis suppurativa

Botanicals and Supplements for Hidradenitis Suppurativa

This session will introduce topical botanicals and oral supplements that can be helpful in managing HS.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. List 6 oral supplements to recommend to people with HS
  2. Identify 3 topical botanicals to suggest for people with HS
  3. List 2 types of tea that may be helpful for people with HS

HS Practical Integration with Pharmaceuticals

This lecture synthesizes the different perspectives for treating hidradenitis suppurativa. By utilizing the integrative toolkit, we bridge multiple approaches like pharmaceuticals with nutrition with lifestyle with device to take an integrative approach.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Review different classes of pharmaceuticals and how to build in an integrative approach
  2. Integrative toolkit review for HS
