Introduction to Integrative Esthetics and the IECP

Integrative esthetics takes account of the whole person and uses all available therapeutic modalities using an evidence-based approach. In this course you will learn about what integrative esthetics encompasses and what to expect from the subsequent five modules of the IECP program.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Define integrative esthetics
  2. Distinguish the differences between conventional and integrative esthetics
  3. Review the IECP course and resources to follow along

What Is an Integrative Esthetician?

This lesson introduces students to the concept of integrative esthetics. It is meant to inspire students to develop an inside-out and outside-in approach to skincare.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Understand the importance of treating the whole person
  2. Learn about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)
  3. Understand how these various approaches can work together

Practical Approaches to Integrative Esthetics

This lesson provides guidelines to understand what it means to take an integrative approach. A practical way to adapt eastern and western approaches will be discussed.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Recall the core philosophy of integrative approaches
  2. Summarize the various approaches to skin analysis
  3. Develop an integrative philosophy

The Client Consultation Process

Conducting a proper consultation is the key to determining the best protocol for each client. An integrative consultation goes beyond questions about nutrition, medications, and skincare products, to include questions that point to well-being. Without diagnosing, the goal is to educate the client on lifestyle changes that may improve their skin as well as their overall health.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Restate which questions to ask during an integrative consultation
  2. Assess clients using various wellness modalities
  3. Identify client’s skin health goals
  4. Categorize when to refer to a dermatologist, TCM, or Ayurvedic practitioner
