SIBO and Systemic Associations

Alterations in the microbiome, as seen in SIBO, can be referred to as states of dysbiosis. The microbiome plays important roles in modulating immunity, inflammation, and metabolism, and so, a change in its composition is not only implicated in gut pathology, but also, systemic conditions. This activity provides an overview on the pathophysiology of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and summarizes the literature on its systemic associations.
