Topical Ingredients and Functions
This lecture will provide an overview for the types of ingredients that are found in skin care products. The role of water, emulsifiers, and preservatives are a few examples of the topics that will be covered. Their impact on skin will be reviewed in light of clinical studies, and the role of evaluating ingredients in relation to skin types will be discussed.
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify different classes of ingredients and how they affect the skin mechanically
- Differentiate moisturizer ingredients from thick to thin formulations
- Recall the effect of emulsifiers on the transepidermal water loss
Ingredient Pairing No-No's and Yes-Yes's
This lecture explores how ingredients should be used together and how they should not be used together. Common mistakes to avoid will be discussed along with approaches to help take a mechanistic approach to treatment that allows for building synergistic regimens.
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss which ingredients do not pair well in skin care products
- Discuss how to be synergistic with topical ingredients
- Utilize synergy in building an approach to customized compounded formulas
Safe & Effective Uses of Essential Oils
This course provides guidance on the safe and effective utilization of essential oils. Participants will learn essential principles of dilution, application methods, and practical uses for various essential oils.
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe safe dilution and application of essential oils
- Compare the differences between the many options of essential oils
- Implement and demonstrate effective uses for the different topical applications of specific essential oils
