What You'll Learn

Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition of the face characterized by symptoms of flushing, inflammatory lesions, vascular changes, and ocular involvement. The pathophysiology and clinical presentation varies, thus making treatment challenging. Naturopathic doctors employ a holistic approach to treatment by incorporating interplay between different body systems in the pathophysiology of disease. This course reviews the naturopathic medical approach to treating rosacea using an evidence-based perspective including oral and topical botanical and nutraceutical therapies.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between the multiple factors involved in the pathogenesis of rosacea
  • Recognize the correlation between rosacea and dysbiosis, and treatment outcomes
  • Assess when Demodex mites might be a factor in rosacea and prescribe an appropriate treatment protocol
  • Integrate evidence-based naturopathic treatment modalities into rosacea treatment plans

Accreditation Information

This series will explore naturopathic and integrative approaches to treating various skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and herpes, as well as aesthetic concerns such as hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. The demand for natural and complementary medicines among patients is growing, and health care practitioners need to be informed of the evidence to safely guide patients and answer their questions. Naturopathic medicine approaches health from the perspective that we must treat the whole person because the body’s many systems are all interconnected. Disease is not sequestered in only one part of the body. The series will present evidence-based research on how dysfunction in other parts of the body, such as in the thyroid or the gut, can have a profound impact on dermatological disease.
