This module examines how internal health, lifestyle, and skin resilience influence visible aging, procedural recovery, and patient satisfaction. Learners will explore the effects of stress, sleep, inflammation, glycation, nutrition, supplementation, and barrier health on aesthetic outcomes. The sessions provide practical strategies for incorporating these factors into consultations, skincare planning, and peri-procedural care.
Aesthetic Peri-Procedure Optimization: Integrative Skin Preparation, Resilience and Recovery to Enhance Outcomes - (Marianna Blyumin-Karasik, MD)
Optimizing aesthetic outcomes begins before the procedure and continues through recovery. This session explores evidence-based and integrative strategies for peri-procedural skin preparation and post-procedure care, including priming, barrier-supportive skincare, supplementation, adjunctive light-based therapies, stress modulation, sleep, lifestyle modification, and hormonal considerations. Attendees will learn how improving skin resilience may support healing, collagen production, patient comfort, and overall treatment success.
Learning Objectives:
Stress, Sleep, and Skin Aging: The Biological Pathways Behind Visible Change. - (Jason Derico, ND)
This presentation explains how chronic stress and poor sleep contribute to visible skin aging through overlapping biologic pathways, including cortisol signaling, inflammation, oxidative stress, and impaired barrier repair. It emphasizes that these factors are associated with more fine lines, uneven pigmentation, dryness, reduced elasticity, and lower satisfaction with appearance, making them highly relevant in medical aesthetics. The talk then translates this science into clinical practice by encouraging simple screening, better counseling, and treatment planning that accounts for a patient’s sleep and stress burden
Learning Objectives:
Integrating Naturopathic Medicine into Aesthetic Dermatology - (Rob Ayoup, ND)
With its historical focus on identifying and treating the root cause of common health concerns, Naturopathic Medicine often engages in an ‘inside-out’ approach through its use of clinical nutrition, herbal medicine, and lifestyle therapies. For skincare, this incorporation of such a whole-body viewpoint adds a unique dimension for the management of various skincare and aesthetics concerns and/or goals. This course will feature easy-to-integrate examples of three Naturopathic treatment approaches as it pertains to skin aging. These include dietary changes relating to skin glycation; the use of an oral herbal extract with aesthetic effects on the skin; and finally, a dive into beauty sleep…how optimizing sleep translates into amazing skin!
Learning objective:
This set of three lectures explores integrative strategies that may support aesthetic outcomes before, during, and after cosmetic procedures. Topics include peri-procedural skin preparation and recovery, stress and sleep as contributors to visible skin aging, and the integration of naturopathic medicine into aesthetic dermatology.
Participants will examine evidence-informed approaches including barrier-supportive skincare, supplementation, adjunctive light-based therapies, nutrition, sleep optimization, stress reduction, lifestyle modification, hormonal considerations, and naturopathic approaches to skin aging. The lectures also address biologic pathways related to inflammation, oxidative stress, glycation, barrier function, collagen production, and skin resilience, with practical applications for aesthetic consultation, treatment planning, recovery, and patient satisfaction.
This activity is intended for healthcare professionals involved in aesthetic dermatology and medical aesthetics, including physicians, physician associates/assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, naturopathic doctors, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals interested in incorporating evidence-informed integrative approaches into aesthetic care.
This educational activity is designed to help clinicians incorporate evidence-informed integrative strategies into aesthetic dermatology and peri-procedural care.
The program examines how skin preparation, barrier support, nutrition, supplementation, sleep, stress, lifestyle factors, and hormonal considerations may influence skin resilience, healing, visible aging, recovery, and patient satisfaction. It also introduces naturopathic approaches related to glycation, nutrition, botanical supplementation, and sleep as they relate to skin aging and aesthetic goals.
Through these sessions, participants will gain practical strategies to strengthen aesthetic consultations, identify factors that may affect treatment response and recovery, and incorporate individualized supportive measures into cosmetic treatment planning.
