Biofeedback: An Introduction

This lecture will explore the fundamental concepts and practical aspects of biofeedback, and where it has been used in clinical medicine.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the science of biofeedback
2. Outline some of the conditions where biofeedback may be helpful
3. Identify some potential pitfalls of biofeedback

Healing Touch

This session introduces healing touch, including what it is, how it is done, and the certification process.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe Healing Touch
  2. Identify types of patients Healing Touch can benefit
  3. Assess barriers to Healing Touch 

Reiki in Integrative Medicine

Reiki and other energy healing modalities are becoming more and more popular. Reiki can be combined easily with other traditional or integrative modalities. Of the various healing modalities, Reiki has been one of the most researched. Learn about the history and practice of Reiki. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Review the history and practice of Reiki
  2. Evaluate the scientific data on Reiki
  3. Identify ways Reiki can be integrated into a dermatology practice
  4. Practice some Reiki-related activities

Medical Hypnosis: History and Evidence Review

This session takes a deep dive into medical hypnosis with an eye towards operating theories and detailed review of the evidence in dermatology.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the current medical understanding of hypnotherapy
2. Outline some of the studies that have been done on hypnosis for dermatologic issues
3. Identify some patient types or conditions that may be best suited for hypnotherapy

After finishing Medical School and Dermatology Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Bodemer completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was the first Dermatologist to be board certified in both Dermatology and Integrative Medicine and currently is the only Dermatologist to serve on the Integrative Medicine Board. She has authored academic texts and curriculum and has spoken widely on a variety of topics related to Integrative Dermatology. She has always been drawn to exploring how lifestyle choices impact skin health and disease and feels that the most powerful role a physician can play is as an educator and guide, empowering people to get healthy and stay healthy.

Dr. Judith Hong is a board-certified dermatologist at a private practice in Santa Rosa, California. After completing medical school and residency training at UCSF, she moved to Sonoma County and developed an interest in meditation, qigong, and reiki practices. She is a certified reiki-teacher master and enjoys doing reiki for friends, colleagues, and patients.

Peter Lio

Dr. Peter Lio is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship in Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital, and his Dermatology training at Harvard where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology. Dr. Lio is the founding director of the Chicago Integrative Eczema Center and has spoken nationally and internationally about atopic dermatitis, as well as alternative medicine.
