Course: Naturopathic Approach to Hormonal Testing for Acne
Naturopathic Approach to Hormonal Testing for Acne
Kris Somol, ND

The prevalence of acne in Western populations is ubiquitous and growing. While research is still uncovering the root causes of acne, we know that hormones play a large role in the pathogenesis of the disease. This course discusses the association of various hormones with acne in different populations (such as males versus females and different age groups). It also looks at the evidence on which hormone tests are most appropriate for various patients suffering from acne in order to prescribe effective treatment plans.

Learning Objectives

  • Determine the possible hormonal causes and differential diagnoses for acne by age
  • Assess the necessity of hormone testing for verifying accuracy of diagnoses or potential efficacy of treatment
  • Identify which hormone tests will benefit different types of patients
