Supplements for Heart Health

This series offers an in-depth review of how to use nutrition and supplements to address health conditions and the evidence behind their use. Topics range from supplements for the cardiovascular system, the endocrine system, and the immune system.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of clinicians and non-clinicians involved in the care of patients.

Educational Objectives

1. Explain the importance of real or perceived statin intolerance on increasing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
2. Summarize complementary strategies that may help attain LDL-C goal in the difficult to treat patient with statin intolerance.
3. Identify the cholesterol lowering effects of berberine, citrus bergamot, red yeast rice, pantetheine, probiotics, artichoke extract, glucomannan, phytosterols, tea consumption, and curcumin.

Method of Participation

Participants must 1) read the learning objectives and faculty disclosures, 2) study the educational activity, 3) complete the posttest by recording the best answer to each quiz question, and 4) complete the evaluation form.

A statement of credit will be issued only upon receipt of a completed activity evaluation form and a completed post-test with a score of 70% or better. Statements of credit will be available once the evaluation form is completed.
