Welcome to week 17 as we apply an integrative dermatology approach to psoriasis!

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of clinicians and non-clinicians involved in the care of patients.

Method Participation

Participants must 1) read the program information, 2) study the educational activity, 3) complete the posttest by recording the best answer to each quiz question, and 4) complete the evaluation form.

A statement of credit will be issued only upon receipt of a completed activity evaluation form and a completed post-test with a score of 70% or better. Statements of credit will be available once the midterm and final exams are completed and evaluation forms submitted.

Psoriasis: Botanicals and Supplements

This session offers a detailed review of the literature on botanical and supplements for psoriasis as well as practical considerations for their use.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe some of the studies that have shown benefit for psoriasis.
  2. Outline some of the potential pitfalls or limitations of some of these agents.
  3. Identify potential opportunities for integrative approaches to psoriasis.

Psoriasis: The Ayurvedic Approach

This lecture will provide a brief overview of the Ayurvedic perspective on psoriasis and how the three doshas are evaluated in the context of the clinical exam. Evidence will be presented on the utility of using turmeric and neem in the treatment of psoraisis. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the Ayurvedic imbalances associated with psoriasis.
  2. Discuss the treatment approaches to counter the typical imbalances in psoriasis

Practical Integration with Pharmaceuticals

This lecture brings together integrative modalities that enhance conventional treatments for psoriasis.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify a hepatoprotective herb that can be used to minimize risk of hepatotoxicity with methotrexate and acitretin
  2. Recognize the benefits of meditation and phototherapy
