What You'll Learn

Skin has a love-hate relationship with sunlight. On one hand, sunlight helps with vitamin D production, may improve cognitive behavior, and may improve mood, especially among those with seasonal affective disorder. On the other hand, it is well known that sunlight is responsible for skin cancers such as nonmelanoma skin cancers and melanoma. Apart from skin cancers, sun exposure leads to photoaging in the form of wrinkles, dyspigmentation, and facial redness, where aspects of photoaging can affect both light and darkly pigmented skin.
