Update on Pathophysiology

This session will review the pathophysiology of vitiligo.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the impact vitiligo has on quality of life
  • Identify autoimmune diseases that can be associated with vitiligo
  • List factors that contribute to the pathogenesis of vitiligo

Therapy of Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a challenging yet common condition with a complex literature. We review the therapeutic updates to discern the highest level of evidence and most up-to-date therapeutic approaches.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the therapeutic treatment ladder for vitiligo
  • Outline some of the promising agents under study
  • Identify some of the potential adverse effects and potential pitfalls of the therapies

Diet and Foods

This activity will review the role of diet and foods in vitiligo, including the role of fatty foods, the association with gluten free diet, and the role of antioxidant rich food ingestion.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate the evidence for the role of foods in vitiligo
  • Review the association between vitiligo and celiac disease

Botanicals and Supplements in Vitiligo

Vitiligo remains a very challenging condition with many unmet needs. We review the literature on botanicals and supplements in detail and discuss their clinical implications.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the unmet needs in the therapy of vitiligo
  • Outline some promising botanicals and supplements for the treatment of vitiligo
  • Identify some of the potential pitfalls of using some of these therapeutic approaches

Practical Integration with Pharmaceuticals

This lecture summarizes integrative approaches that can augment standard pharmaceutical treatments of vitiligo.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • List a supplement that has evidence for augmenting the benefits of phototherapy in the treatment of vitiligo
  • Recognize an Autoimmune Protocol diet
  • Describe how Medical Hypnosis can be helpful for treating autoimmune disease
