Overview

Pipsissewa (Chimaphila umbellata) is an herb. The above-ground parts are used as food flavoring. They have also been used in traditional medicine.

Pipsissewa is used for bladder and skin problems. It might reduce swelling and kill germs that cause infections in the urinary tract.

People sometimes use pipsissewa for infections of the kidney, bladder, or urethra (urinary tract infections or UTIs), diabetes, cancer, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Pipsissewa is sometimes called wintergreen or holly. Don't confused pipsissewa with other plants called wintergreen or holly. These are not the same.
