GI Map Tutorial and Clinical Pearls for the Gut-Skin Axis

The gut-skin axis plays a key role in identifying root causes of common dermatological conditions. Rosacea, atopic dermatitis, eczema, acne, and more often have root causes stemming from GI pathogens, dysbiosis, parasites, and an unhealthy gut microbiome.

Join Cat Simmons, MS, RDN from Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory as she discusses the gut-skin condition and provides a helpful tutorial to help you learn to use advanced stool testing to address dermatological symptoms. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the benefits of quantitative PCR technology and why it sets GI-MAP® apart as an industry-leading stool test
  • Complete a page-by-page walk of the test report and review interpretation patterns
  • List the most relevant organisms and biomarkers on the GI-MAP that relate to the gut-skin connection
  • Review a few interesting skin manifestation cases studies where the GI-MAP provided critical insights and improved outcomes 

Underlying Causes of Skin and Mucosal Issues

This lecture is meant to switch your approach with the dermatological patient from WHAT they have to WHY they have it. Through medical curiosity, setting up a differential diagnosis that uses validated labs and understanding what the immune system and skin need to be happy and healthy we can support long term dermatological healing in our patients. 

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Most skin disorders are actually immune system disorders with a skin aftermath symptoms
  • Go inflammation huntin and killing; if you really want to help the dermatology patient out identify and treat the underlying causes and reserve "drug and herbs for symptoms" approach for acute care
  • Understand novel underlying causes of skin issues
  • All skin needs the FAB 5 to be healthy

Climate Change & Dermatology

We will review some basic information about climate change and climate science, and focus on the intersection of climate change, medicine, and health. While climate change impacts almost every organ system in the body, we will focus on issues pertaining to dermatology, including skin cancer, inflammatory skin disease, infectious skin disease, and more. We will cover ways for dermatologists to engage and get involved, in their own practice and as part of the field of dermatology and within the house of medicine.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review information about climate change and climate science
  • Discuss how climate change impacts dermatological disease
  • Describe how dermatologists can get involved

The Longevity Equation: The Science of Longevity Meets the Art of Existence

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Introduction to aging, longevity, and wellness medicine
  • The pathophysiology of accelerated aging
  • Wellness and longevity risk factors
  • Preventive medicine nutraceuticals for aging and wellness
  • Environmental, dietary, and lifestyle risk factors that impact longevity
  • How to clinically evaluate longevity and aging risk factors
  • How to clinically manage longevity and aging risk factors

Alumni Social Meetup – October 2025

October 2025 IDCP Alumni Meetup was a wonderful chance for graduates and faculty to reconnect and share how integrative dermatology continues to shape their practices. Hosted by Dr. Shilesh Iyer, the session highlighted how the program has inspired evidence-based, patient-centered approaches that blend dermatology and wellness. Alumni exchanged practical advice and experiences, from patient education and lifestyle guidance to integrative strategies for hair loss management, and then ending with updates, future plans, and renewed excitement to keep growing together as a community.
