IDCP 2022 In-Person Intensives

• Recommended arrival anytime on Tuesday, September 27 and departure after 4pm MT on Sunday, October 2
• Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is approximately 19 miles from Tucson, AZ airport (TUS) 
• Transportation can be reserved on our website here. Taxis, Uber, and Lyft also operate at the airport.
• We will capture your dietary preferences in your IDS registration or please reply with any restrictions if not yet registered for IDS.

Functional Medicine Testing and Gut Testing

With the growth of functional and microbiome based testing, there is growing interest in the use of functional tests. This lecture set will explore the use functional tests to assess for hormones, metabolic health, mitochondrial health, and gut health. Learning Objectives:

1. Identify the metabolic pathways involved in mitochondrial health and how to identify mitochondrial function in organic acid testing
2. Describe the use of hormone and stress testing
3. Discuss the use of microbiome and permeability based testing to assess gut health.

Reiki in Dermatology

In this session, participants will discuss reiki, a form of energy healing/therapeutic touch. The workshop will include activities for participants to experience energy healing firsthand, both giving and receiving, and discuss how to apply these concepts and practices in clinic. Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the evidence supporting reiki in dermatology
2. Describe the principles of reiki and treatment procedure
3. Practice mind-body medicine techniques in dermatology clinic
4. Develop energy practices

Battlefield Acupuncture

In this session, participants will learn the evidence supporting battlefield acupuncture, a form of auricular acupuncture used to treat both acute and chronic pain. Participants will have the opportunity to practice the technique hands-on with supervision. Learning Objectives:

1. Identify the 5 specific sites of auricular acupuncture utilized in Battlefield Acupuncture
2. Identify opportunities to utilize BFA in their dermatology practice, based on the available evidence
3. Describe the evidence supporting BFA as a management for pain

Herbs, Oil Science, and Formulation Theory & Case Based Botanical Workshop

This session will discuss the use of herbs and herbal oils. The mechanism of action, dosing and side effects of multiple herbs will be discussed. Examples of formulations will be described. Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss the different functions of herbs
2. Diagram an herbal formulation based on clinical cases
3. Describe how to perform an herbal oil extraction

Extraordinary Evidence: Skepticism and Discussing the Liminal

A deep dive into the concept of "Scientism" with an emphasis on how to talk about liminal and controversial topics, framed by the UFO phenomenon. Learning objectives: 

1. Review subjective opinions masquerading as "objective fact"
2. Discuss how preconceived notions can color definitions and thresholds
3. Recall some of the key controversial aspects of the UFO phenomenon 

Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses pressure on specific points on the body to reduce pain, create relaxation, and help the body heal. This is an introduction to acupressure. We will be learning 9 acupressure points and practice its application. Learning Objectives:

1. Review how acupressure works
2. Recall 9 acupressure points - name, location, function
3. Practice the points on yourself and describe its effects and/or sensations
